OVID EXPANDS PORTFOLIO OF SCIENCE JOURNALS.

Ovid Technologies (NASDAQ NM: OVID), New York, N.Y., has reached agreements with the New York Academy of Sciences and the American Institute of Biological Sciences to electronically publish those organizations' flagship journals, Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences (ISSN 0077-8923), and BioScience (ISSN 0006-3568), respectively.

The addition of these journals to Ovid's full text offerings marks a milestone in Ovid's continuing effort to expand its portfolio of high-quality basic science journals available in electronic format. The Annals and BioScience both rank among the top five multidisciplinary science periodicals in the authoritative "Journal Citation Reports" study by the Institute for Scientific Information.

"These agreements really go a long way toward cementing Ovid's leadership in Academic library markets, as well as the medical markets we're best known in." Said Ovid President and CEO Mark Nelson.

Scheduled to debut on Ovid Online in January, BioScience and the Annals will join a list of prestigious basic science titles -- including Science and Nature -- that are already available electronically via the Journals@Ovid online full text database.

Celebrating its 175th anniversary this year, The Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences publishes approximately 14,000 pages of original research, discussions, and review articles each year. With 700 institutional print subscriptions worldwide, the Annals volumes provide an authoritative overview of medical and basic biological science subjects of current and compelling interest.

"We are delighted to be publishing the Annals series online with Ovid," said Rodney Nichols, president and CEO of the New York Academy of Sciences. "It makes sense to use the technology available to efficiently increase the worldwide dissemination of this multidisciplinary, cutting-edge scientific research."

At present, Ovid is the only aggregation service licensed to electronically publish the Annals, which ranks as the fourth most-frequently-cited multidisciplinary science journal in "Journal Citation Reports."

BioScience is the flagship publication of the American Institute of Biological Sciences, a 51 year-old federation of over 50 biological societies and associations that together comprise more than 120,000 biologists worldwide. A unique blend of peer-reviewed scientific articles, reviews, and feature stories written for researchers, teachers, and students alike, BioScience covers all areas of biology and is ranked third in "Journal Citation Reports" for overall impact. Over 3,000 libraries and educational institutions around the world receive the print version of BioScience each month.

"Publishing online with Ovid assures BioScience of a worldwide readership and furthers the AIBS mission of facilitating the exchange of scientific information in all areas of biology, biomedical and non-biomedical alike," said Dr. Richard O'Grady, AIBS executive director, of the agreement.

The first online issue of BioScience will be accessible to Ovid subscribers through Journals@Ovid in January 1999.
