 OVER 63 PERCENT OF U.S. CREDIT UNIONS
 IN 'OUTSTANDING SHAPE', SAYS ANALYST
 CORAL GABLES, Fla., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Bauer Financial Reports, Inc., a research firm that specializes in evaluating the financial performance of banks, thrifts and credit unions, reports that an analysis of credit union financial data for the period ended June 30, 1992, just released by regulators, shows a very healthy credit union industry.
 Based on its analysis of data on 13,297 U.S. credit unions, using a scale of 5-stars (highest) to 0-stars (lowest), Bauer reports:
 -- 4,295 credit unions received 5-star ratings;
 -- 3,693 credit unions received 4-star ratings;
 -- (5-star and 4-star rated credit unions constitute the
 "Outstanding Shape" percentage)
 -- 1,503 credit unions received 3-star ratings;
 -- 103 credit unions received 2-star ratings;
 -- 30 credit unions received 1-star ratings and
 -- 46 credit unions received 0-star ratings -- 13 are already
 insolvent and 33 are projected to become insolvent in the near
 term.
 -- 3,627 credit unions were not rated either because they are not
 federally insured (527) or their assets total less than $1
 million (3,100)
 Bauer Financial Reports, Inc. considers 5-star and 4-star rated credit unions to be well-capitalized and issues an unqualified recommendation on these institutions; 3-star rated credit unions are adequately capitalized, 2-star rated are undercapitalized and 1-star and 0-star rated credit unions are critically undercapitalized.
 Consumers can find out if their credit union meets or fails to meet Bauer's capital guidelines by calling Bauer's BankRater(R) at 800-388-6686, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. EDT. There is no charge for this service.
