OVER 23 MILLION KIDS CONNECT TO NICKELODEON'S 8TH ANNUAL KIDS' CHOICE AWARDS THROUGH LIVE ON-AIR VOTING; host Whitney Houston joined by Rosie O'Donnell, LL Cool J, musical performer Brandy and many others for May 20th award show; Planet Hollywood to host Kids' Choice parties in London, New York and Orlando.

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 1995--With the voting polls closed for NICKELODEON's 8th Annual Kids' Choice Awards, the network registered over 23 million calls from kids across the country during the six week on-air voting campaign. In addition to the phone calls, over 40,600 kids voted on-line, while 8,000 kids cast secret ballots at NICKELODEON Studios in Orlando, Fla. NICKELODEON, in an effort to connect kids directly to this year's "Kids Choice Awards," gave them the chance to vote for their favorites in movies, television, sports and music via both a special 800 phone number Saturday evenings during SNICK (Saturday Nigh Nickelodeon) and on-line through Prodigy.

"In 1992 over 12 million kids called NICKELODEON to cast their votes during "Kids Pick The President" and last year nearly 5 million kids pledged over 31 million volunteer hours during NICKELODEON's "The Big Help-a-thon," said Albie Hecht, executive producer and vice president, production and development, NICKELODEON. "By offering kids new ways of voting for `The Kids' Choice Awards,' both over the phone and on-line, kids have once again responded in record numbers proving that they want to be heard."

The winners will be announced during NICKELODEON's 8th Annual Kids' Choice Awards, hosted by award winning recording artist and actress Whitney Houston, live from Los Angeles, Saturday, May 20th at 8:00 PM (ET)/ 5:00 PM (PT). The show will take place at the Santa Monica Air Center's Barker Hangar.

The one-hour award celebration, airing exclusively on NICKELODEON, will feature appearances and presentations by many of the entertainment world's most popular stars including: Rosie O'Donnell(a) ("The Flintstones"), LL Cool J ("In the House"), Mark Curry ("Hangin' With Mr. Cooper"), musical group All-4-One(a) ("She's Got Skillz"), Tia and Tamera Mowry (a) ("Sister, Sister"), Ben Savage and Rider Strong ("Boy Meets World"), Taran Noah Smith ("Home Improvement"(a)), Jenna von Oy ("Blossom"), Tatyana Ali ("The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air(a)), Melissa Joan Hart ("Clarissa Explains it All"), Larisa Oleynik ("The Secret World of Alex Mack"), the cast of NICKELODEON's "All That", Michael Fishman ("Roseanne"), singer Tevin Campbell ("I'm Ready"), Lacey Chabert ("Party of Five"), the Smollet family ("On Our Own"), Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Jeremy Jackson ("Baywatch") and celebrity canine Milo ("The Mask") among others.

Live musical entertainment boasts performances by Billboard's current chart topping acts, including musical sensation Brandy, Soul-4-Real's "Candy Rain" and Montell Jordan performing his hip-hop single "This Is How We Do It".

In addition, an interactive element to put kid viewers in touch with the on-screen excitement has been added to this year's show. Throughout the live broadcast, kids will have a chance to vote live on-air and on-line for the Kids' Choice prestigious Hall Of Fame honoree. Presented each year to a different celebrity or group based on cumulative multiple nominations from each year, the hopefuls for this year are Boyz II Men, Whoopi Goldberg, and Janet Jackson. Last year's recipient was Michael Jordan.

Planet Hollywood locations in New York, London, and Orlando will be hosting viewing parties in conjunction with this year's Kid's Choice Awards. For the eighth year in a row, NICKELODEON has paired with Kraft Foods as a sponsor for the "Kids' Choice Awards." This year's promotion with Kool-Aid Brand Soft Drink's Island Twist New Tropical Flavor drink, exemplifies Kraft's commitment to kids as well as their support in giving kids a voice.
