OVER 100,000 EXPECTED TO MARCH IN LABOR DAY PARADE

LANSING, Mich., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Over 100,000 union members, their families and friends are expected to again march in downtown Detroit on Monday, Sept. 6, in the annual Michigan State AFL-CIO Detroit Labor Day Parade.
There will be two lines of march, one down Woodward starting at 10 a.m. from the intersection of Mack and Woodward, and the other down Michigan Avenue starting at 11:30 a.m. from the intersection of Michigan and Trumbull. The Teamsters will be the AFL-CIO union marching down Michigan Avenue; all other AFL-CIO unions will be marching down Woodward.
The official ribbon-cutting for the parade will be at 10 a.m. at Woodward and Mack, and will be done by the parade's four grand marshals: UAW President Owen Bieber; Michigan U.S. Sen. Don Riegle; Detroit Mayor Coleman Young; and Raymond L. Flynn, U.S. ambassador to the Holy See (the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church in Vatican City).
This year's parade theme is "Union Labor: We Make Michigan Work!" in addition to the marching units, featured in the parade will be floats, marching bands and other musical groups, drill teams, costumed figures, and vehicles used by union members in their work.
Because this is an off-year for state and national elections, there will be no rally or speeches after the parade.
