 OVER $4.3 MILLION IN FEDERAL DISASTER AID CHECKS DELIVERED
 TO VICTIMS OF HURRICANE ANDREW
 MIAMI, Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Over $3 million in federal disaster aid checks for temporary housing have been delivered to victims of Hurricane Andrew in the past few days, and on Saturday the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) delivered just under $1 million worth of checks.
 According to Phil May, federal coordinating officer from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, "FEMA hopes to continuously increase this amount each day in the future.
 FEMA reports that on Saturday (Sept. 5) FEMA delivered $998,328.25 to 491 families who have applied for federal aid at Disaster Application Centers in the disaster area or through the National Teleregistration.
 To date, FEMA has delivered $3. 1 million to 1,445 families who have suffered losses from Hurricane Andrew.
 In addition to the FEMA amounts, the Small Business Administration had issued cheeks in the amount of $1.5 million representing 58 loans to homeowners, renters and business owners.
 According to SBA spokesperson Jill Finnie, "SBA has taken the necessary stops to allow us to approve disaster home loans within seven days of the date of application. That in several weeks faster than was possible in previous disasters," said Finnie.
