IMPROVEMENTS ALONG HIGHWAY 58

Two National Forest Recreation Sites are being closed temporarily along Highway 58 because of improvements. The Hardesty Mountain Trailhead and McCredie Hot Springs parking area are adding trash bins, paved parking areas and more. Exact dates of closures and re-openings aren't as of yet known but will be released via http://rgne.ws/PSWVfz. Info: 541.782.2283.

GUIDE TALKS FISHING IN KLAMATH COUNTY

Marlon Rampy brings his knowledge as the lead guide at the The Lonesome Duck Lodge near Crater Lake along the Williamson River to Wednesday's meeting of the Cascade Family Flyfishers, open to the public. Hear about fly fishing on the Klamath, Williamson, Wood, Rogue and Chewacan rivers. He will also talk about fishing the Klamath, Agency and Diamond lakes. The meeting is at the EWEB Community room 500 E 4th Ave., Eugene. Fly tying demonstrations begin at 6:15 p.m., with the meeting at 7 p.m. Info: 541-513-7778.

FREE BIRDING TRIP GOES TO FERN RIDGE

The Birds of Oregon; General Science group visits Fern Ridge Lake on Thursday, from 9 a.m. to about noon, on a free trip. Bring binoculars if you have them, and the walk is fairly easy. Meet at Campbell Community Center (155 High St., Eugene, 541-682-5318).

SATURDAY TOUR OF MOUNT PISGAH

The Friends of Buford Park lead a tour of the Willamette Confluence near Mount Pisgah from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday. The tour will see the endangered oak savanna, among other sights. To join the tour, visit http://rgne.ws/PA9v3t and click the link to register.

BREAKFAST COMES TO THE COMMUTERS

Commuters traveling by bike across the Frohnmayer Bike & Pedestrian Bridge south of Autzen Stadium in Eugene can stop for Breakfast at the Bridges on Friday, from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The event is sponsored by the city of Eugene, and is the last instance of the summer series that gives river path commuters free bagels and coffee, bike bells, safety checks and more. APPRECIATE YOUR BIKE WEDNESDAY

Bicycle Appreciation Day is Wednesday, and the UO Outdoor Program wants to help. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside Lillis Hall on campus, minor repairs and adjustments will be made for free, with snacks provided.

FREE COHO SEMINAR IS THURSDAY

Mazama Sporting Goods presents a Coho salmon fishing seminar for those fishing coastal lakes and rivers. The presentation is Thursday at 6:30 p.m., led by North County Lures owner Dean Hendricks of Florence. It will be held at 900 McKinley St., Eugene.

FISHING

Lakes and ponds: Dexter Lake gets 5,000 legal-sized trout this week in its final scheduled stocking of the year by ODFW. Foster Lake east of Sweet Home also receives a stocking of 5,000.

Marine zone: Pacific halibut season reopened on the central coast Monday, with 4,700 pounds estimated by ODFW to be available in the nearshore fishery. From Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain, the fishery is open every day until Oct. 31 unless the quota is met. Stay within the 40-fathom line as defined by waypoints. 50-plus, self-led: Hour-long group walk around neighborhood surrounding Petersen Barn Community Center, 870 Bertnzen Road, Eugene. Meet at 9:30 a.m. For those 50 or older.

FRIDAY

Campbell Community Cen-ter: Walk 'n' Talkers group is self-led for 3-5 miles every Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., leaving from 155 High St., Eugene. Info: 541-682-5318.
