FINDLAY NAPIER & THE BAR ROOM MOUNTAINEERS RAISE A GLASS

A folky tribute to the dreams of the browbeaten office worker from the leader of Glasgow's nu-folk revival. It's got fiddles, harmonies and a climax like a good skelp on the thigh. ****

ISA AND THE FILTHY TONGUES DARK PASSENGER

Fans of the late Goodbye Mr McKenzie, take note. Martin Metcalfe, the band's frontman, is back. This is somewhere between rock and punk but not quite punk rock. ****

ANGUS & JULIA STONE A BOOK LIKE THIS

A shoo-in for fans of acoustic songsmithery, saying more by saying less. Draw Your Swords could be Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here on another day. ***

MR HUDSON FT KANYE WEST ANYONE BUT HIM

Mr Hudson continues his unlikely collaboration with rap star. Shouldn't work but it does. ***

GOLDFRAPP HEADFIRST

The first track on the fifth offering from Alison Goldfrapp and partner Will Gregory sounds like Jump by the Pointer Sisters. This isn't as bad as you might think - better suited for dancing in the kitchen than driving through the mountains. ****
