Byline: DIY DONNY

QI NOTE that you recently suggested cutting up a yoga mat and applying it to the inside of a toilet cistern to cut condensation. Does one need to empty the cistern first? T Collins AYES, you need to empty and remove the cistern, remove the siphon etc. Make sure it's dry, cut the mat to fit with holes where the outlets and inlets are and then use a contact adhesive to glue it around the interior of the cistern.

QABOUT five years ago I had the outside walls of my house rendered but a very fine crack has appeared on the side which faces the elements. How can I cure this? Vivienne Vale ASOUNDS like it's caused by the building moving but I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Just get yourself a small packet Toupret Touprelith Exterior Repair Filler and rub it into the crack and wipe off any excess.

That should seal it.

QWE'VE had solid oak flooring in our sitting room for 10 years but it's gone a bit dull.

What is the best way to revive it so it shines? Mary Ronan AIF it's solid oak, the answer is to simply sand the floor and re-varnish, or stain and varnish. I would check out Osmo finishes.
