Byline: DIY DONNY
QI'M going to render my extension but can't decide which type to go for. I wanted a modern look but I had my garage rendered with cement and I don't like it. Any suggestions? Mark Currie, by email have moved on.
ATIMES The way forward now is modern silicon render which provides a sharper, more modern finish.
There are two products. K-Rend is an easy product to use and the finish is smooth with a scratch effect. It's not really affected by the weather while applying either.
The other one I like is Jub Thin-Coat Render. There is a wee bit more skill involved with this as it creates a flat, even finish but requires more time. The weather has to be right but it's well worth it if you're after a smooth finish. Both products are much better than sand and cement.
QMY mother's old fibreglass garage doors were painted over with Dulux Weathershield gloss paint which has now peeled off. We've been trying to remove it with a no solvent paint remover but it hasn't come off. What else can we try? Hugh Doggett, by email AI USE a product called Strip Away, a paste you spread over the paint and cover with a special poultice paper. Leave it overnight and pull off the paper and the paint will be absorbed.
In future, use a fibreglass paint. I used it on a boat roof last year and the paint is still perfect.
