Byline: DIY DONNY
QAFTER changing my boiler for a new Worcester Bosch Combi, my hot water in the upstairs bathroom and kitchen runs cloudy with the look of salt water.
Only when taps are open fully does it start to run clear - the installer suggested this. But turning the tap down to half, to fill a bowl, it just injects a cloudy deposit.
It has been happening for six months.
Andrew Gunter, by email ATHIS is quite common and I think it's just air in the water that goes cloudy when the water is heated. It clears up when it settles in a bath or sink and is nothing to worry about.
QI HAVE an outside terrace with white outdoor tiling but a wrought iron table has left rust marks on it.
Can you recommend anything we can use to get them off? And is there anything we can put on the tiles to stop it happening again? Christine Newby, by email need a product called Lithofin rust remover.
AYou I would also paint the table legs with Hammerite and put the feet of the table on coasters.
If the grout has bad rust stains, then you might have to re-grout that section as grout is porous and it's hard to remove stains.
QTHE top row of bricks on my garden wall is flaking badly.
The bricks used were cheap. Is it possible to just have the top row removed and replaced with better quality bricks? The rest of the wall is pretty sound.
Irene Griffiths, by email ATHE reason the bricks are flaking is because the mortar/cement is stronger than them.
With any thermal movement, especially on cold winter days, the mortar takes the strain and is supposed to flake as it is weaker than the bricks - the idea is you just need to re-point.
I would re-do the top row and also fit coping stones if the wall gets a lot of rain and is north facing.
