FORT COLLINS, Colo., Nov. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Otsuka Electronics and ISG Technologies (ISG) today announced the signing of an OEM agreement allowing Otsuka to use ISG's IAP (Imaging Applications Platform) software in it's OE 1.5 SI clinical magnetic resonance imaging system. The OE 1.5 SI is a 1.5 Tesla system offering the performance and features of a high-field system at a price competitive with low-field systems. IAP is a software platform that facilitates rapid and economical development of medical image processing applications such as multiplanar reformatting, maximum intensity projections for MR/CT angiography, 3D rendering, and specialty clinical application packages.
According to Dale Grant, vice president of sales and marketing for Otsuka: "The addition of IAP software to the OE 1.5 SI is a natural extension of Otsuka's philosophy of building an affordable, high- quality, high-performance 1.5 Tesla system. ISG has spent more than four years developing and optimizing the IAP package and the company is widely recognized as leading the 3D industry in image quality. The incorporation of IAP into our software means our development team is not re-inventing the wheel. This leaves them free to concentrate on other aspects of the product. In this way, both the time and cost of developing advanced clinical applications is reduced."
The first applications under development for the OE 1.5 SI are 3D multiplanar reformatting and MR angiography. Using IAP, Otsuka expects to have these applications in field trials in the first quarter of 1994. Without IAP the company estimates these applications would not be ready for field trials until the end of 1994 at the earliest. "This will help speed the delivery of new clinical applications to our customers, allowing them to meet the needs of their referring physicians and compete effectively in their markets," said Mr. Grant.
