 OTS RELEASES JULY ENFORCEMENT STATISTICS
WASHINGTON, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Office of Thrift

Supervision (OTS) reported today that it completed 71 enforcement actions in July 1992.
This brings to 461 the number of enforcement actions by OTS since Jan. 1, 1992.
The listing of enforcement actions by type and alphabetically by thrift is available to the public through the Information Services Division, Office of Thrift Supervision, 1776 G St. N.W., Washington, D.C. 20552, telephone 202-906-5900.
For the month of July 1992 there were:
-- 3 capital directives -- they require thrift institutions to raise money to meet necessary capital standards.
-- 15 cease and desist orders -- permanent orders effective after an administrative proceeding or by consent of the respondent, they require individuals and/or institutions to stop certain practices that jeopardize a thrift's financial well-being, and may order affirmative action such as restitution.
-- 7 restitution orders -- they order repayment to a thrift by an individual who has been unjustly enriched at the institution's expense, and/or who has caused losses to the institution.
-- 19 civil money penalty orders -- they are assessed against institutions and/or individuals for certain wrongful conduct, including violations of statutes, regulations, agency agreements, conditions of approvals or orders.
-- 17 removal and/or prohibition orders -- they remove individuals from their institutions and/or prohibit them from further involvement in the affairs of federally insured depository institutions.
-- 10 supervisory agreements -- written agreements between OTS and individual institutions that can address a wide variety of supervisory concerns. Violations of supervisory agreements may provide the basis for subsequent civil money penalties, and/or cease and desist orders.
