OSHA CITES DORAVILLE, GA. FIRM; PROPOSES $76,950 PENALTY
ATLANTA, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) today cited American Signature, Foote & Davies Atlanta Division, located in Doraville, and proposed penalties totaling $76,950 for alleged safety violations.
According to Raymond Finney, OSHA's area director for the Atlanta- East office, the citations resulted from an inspection which began June 18 after an employee complained about unsafe working conditions.
Following its inspection, OSHA proposed penalties totaling $63,000 for two alleged willful violations involving unguarded machinery and lack of a lockout/tagout program when servicing equipment.
The inspection also revealed four alleged serious violations including risks associated with fire extinguishers and hazard communication program deficiencies. Penalties of $13,950 were proposed for these violations.
"OSHA wants to send the message that it is the company's responsibility to ensure worker safety, and if an employer fails to accept that responsibility, OSHA will take appropriate enforcement action," said Finney.
OSHA defines a willful violation as one committed with an intentional disregard of, or plain indifference to, the requirements of the OSH Act and regulations.
A serious violation is one in which there is a substantial probability that death or serious physical harm could result and that the employer knew or should have known of the hazard.
Foote & Davies has 15 working days to contest the citations and proposed penalties before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
Inspections of the firm were conducted by OSHA's Atlanta-East office located at LaVista Perimeter Office Park, Building 7, Suite 110, Tucker, Ga. 30084; telephone: 404-493-6644.
