 OSF ANNOUNCES NEW MEMBER COMPANIES;
 END-USER COMMUNITY SIGNIFICANTLY REPRESENTED
 CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Dec. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The Open Software Foundation (OSF) is attracting ever-larger numbers of computer end-users for membership while expanding its representation among systems vendors and universities, according to OSF president David Tory. In today's new member announcement, he said, "We are very pleased that the end-user community constitutes the fastest-growing segment of our membership. Since the inception of OSF, it has been our wish to serve the end users and be responsive to their needs."
 New OSF members include 23 end-user organizations, 38 universities, 11 independent software vendors and 10 systems vendors. For the year 1991, OSF added 62 new members, increasing its membership by 24 percent and bringing the percentage of OSF membership represented by end user organizations to 27 percent.
 New member companies include: JC Penney; TeleSoft; Georgia Pacific Corporation; Bell Communications Research; Interleaf, Inc.; and Honeywell, Inc.
 OSF end-user members convey their recommendations to OSF management and the open systems community through the End User Forum, with active leadership provided by representatives of ARCO, Citibank, the University of Michigan, Intergraph Graphics Users Group, and 13 other companies.
 OSF also announced the addition of 11 new university members, including Tokyo Denki University of California at Los Angeles, and Ritsumeikan University.
 The Open Software Foundation is a not-for-profit research and development organization whose goal is to provide a software solution that enables computers from multiple vendors to work together in a true open systems computing environment. OSF uses an innovative open process, soliciting technologies from the industry at large, and delivering the technology in source code form. Headquartered in Cambridge, Mass., OSF has more than 300 members and 275 employees in locations around the world.
