OS/2 TECHNICAL INTERCHANGE CONFERENCE SOLD OUT; IBM SETS OS/2 AND LAN SYSTEMS CONFERENCE FOR AUG. 29-SEPT. 2 IN ORLANDO

PHOENIX, Ariz., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The OS/2(A) Technical Interchange, a hands-on conference for software developers sponsored by the IBM Personal Software Products (PSP) division, has sold out. More than 1,800 persons are attending the Feb. 28-March 3 meeting at the Pointe Hilton at South Mountain in Phoenix.
As a result, for its next OS/2 and LAN Systems Conference slated for Aug. 29-Sept. 2 in Orlando, Fla., IBM is giving first priority to software developers who could not be accommodated at the Phoenix meeting. Those wishing to pre-register now for the Orlando conference should call IBM at 1-800-438-6720.
"Software developer interest in OS/2 and IBM LAN Systems is at an all-time high," said John Soyring, PSP's director of Software Development Programs. "Developers have really begun to appreciate the value of using OS/2 and LAN Server as their development platforms.
In addition to the large amount of custom software being developed by corporations, commercial software developers have continued to increase their investments in development and marketing of applications based on OS/2 and LAN Server."
More than 1,200 new applications exploiting OS/2 technology are now commercially available, and each week vendors are telling IBM about the many new applications they are introducing, Soyring reported. As IBM prepares to release OS/2 2.1, conferences such as the one now being held in Phoenix should further accelerate the development of exciting new applications, he added.
The OS/2 Technical Interchange is featuring three keynote speakers from IBM: James A. Cannavino, senior vice president and general manager of Personal Systems; Art Olbert, PS director, LAN Systems, and Soyring. They are briefing their audiences on the technology of IBM's PSP operating platforms currently available as well as the company's vision for the long-term future.
In addition, Michael Miller, editor-in-chief of PC Magazine, and Bill Machrone, vice president of technology for Ziff-Davis, publishers of PC Magazine, are staging a debate on the state of the personal computer industry.
More than 90 in-depth technical elective sessions focusing on PSP products are being held. Sixty exhibitors are displaying the latest in OS/2 development tools and applications. Leading software companies such as Lotus, Symantec, Computer Associates and WordPerfect are among the exhibitors.
Attending the Phoenix meeting are software designers, technical coordinators, LAN experts, independent programmers, corporate developers, training executives and MIS managers.
Attendees are also inspecting the latest in IBM LAN technology, OS/2 LAN Server 3.0, and are "test driving" OS/2 in a hands-on lab environment.
 OS/2 2.0's Enhanced Features
OS/2 2.0 is the award-winning advanced operating system for 32-bit personal computers that helps protect customers' investments in existing software by enabling them to run tens of thousands of applications originally designed for DOS and /or Windows(B) as well as the new applications designed for OS/2 2.0.
