ORPHANED MECCA TOT 'ZIPPED UP ALIVE IN A BODY BAG' 'Dead' baby put in morgue.

A BABY was put in a body bag and taken to a morgue after a fatal car crash - before medics realised he was alive.

Little Eisa Hayat was the sole survivor of a horror smash which wiped out his family in Saudi Arabia, as they made a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca.

The three-generations of family had travelled almost 3,000 miles from their home in Newport, Wales, when their taxi crashed.

One-year-old Eisa was orphaned when the driver fell asleep and the car veered off the road and hit a bridge in February.

Eisa's dad, Isshaq, and mum Bilques, both 33, were killed - Bilques was seven months pregnant.

His grandfather Shaukat, 56, grandmother Abida, 47, and aunt Saira Zenub, 29, also died.

Eisa only survived because his grandad used his body to shield the baby from the impact.

However, doctors assumed he had not survived the carnage and took him to the morgue. Eisa was about to be placed into a cold storage locker when medics noticed movement in the body bag. He was rushed to the Medina Children's Care hospital and treated for dislocated shoulder and a broken arm and ribs.

His great-uncle Shazada Hayat said yesterday: "They thought he was dead, zipped him up in the bag and took him to the morgue.

"But as they were putting him into storage, he moved around. They grabbed him, put him in an ambulance and rushed him off to the hospital."

Eisa is now being raised by relatives in Newport. Mr Hayat added: "To see the family extinguished in seconds... what do you do? Where do you begin? "Time is the great healer but obviously there will always be a vacuum for him.

"You can't replace the hug of a mother and a father."
