 ORLANDO REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER-SOUTH SEMINOLE
 COMMUNITY HOSPITAL ESTABLISH PARTNERSHIP
ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) and HealthTrust, Inc. -- The Hospital Company (HTI) have agreed to enter into a joint venture to own and operate the South Seminole Community Hospital (SSCH) in Longwood, Fla. Currently, HTI is sole owner of SSCH. The partnership will allow the facilities to provide coordinated services to the community, while enhancing their managed care network and consumer services throughout Central Florida.
Under terms of the mutual partnership, SSCH will be governed by a board of directors equally represented by ORMC and by SSCH's parent company, HealthTrust, Inc., of Nashville, Tenn.
ORMC and SSCH already share several services, including physician referral and continuing education for physicians and employees. Additionally, SSCH will continue to participate in HealthChoice, the ORMC health plan for employers.
"We're excited about the opportunity to work as partners with South Seminole, while continuing to provide quality, cost-effective care," said Roy Wright, ORMC vice president of Marketing and Business Development. "Not only will we be able to expand our network of services, but the SSCH partnership will help reduce the potential for unnecessary duplication of services."
"This merging of resources with Orlando Regional Medical Center enables our network to offer a complete range of services, from primary to the most sophisticated healthcare services available to Seminole County residents," said Steve Grimm, chief executive officer, South Seminole Community Hospital.
Over the past two years, both hospitals have explored ways to serve the needs of the growing number of managed care (HMO, PPO) programs in the Orlando area. Geographically, ORMC's four hospitals and SSCH provide healthcare services that extend to the residents of Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties.
ORMC is one of Florida's most comprehensive private, not-for- profit hospitals. A teaching hospital with seven residency programs, the 1,119-bed system includes ORMC Downtown, the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Women, Sand Lake Hospital, St. Cloud Hospital and the Buena Vista Walk-In Medical Center (near Walt Disney World).
South Seminole Community Hospital is a 126-bed community hospital serving north Orlando and the residents of Seminole County. Its parent company, HealthTrust, Inc., operates a network of 82 hospitals in 21 states. Established in 1984, SSCH is a full-service medical/surgical hospital, including 24-hour emergency care.
