ORION TO DISTRIBUTE TWO FILMS FROM STEINHARDT BAER PICTURES

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Orion Home Video has signed an agreement with Steinhardt Baer Pictures to distribute to the home video marketplace two low-budget films; one is in production, and the other in pre-production. Theatrical and other rights are not included in the current deal.
The films, which Steinhardt Baer is financing, are "Playmaker," a psychological thriller, directed by Yuri Zeltser and starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Rubin, which is being produced by Tom Baer with Marc Samuelson and Peter Samuelson of New Era Productions. The other film, "Dead Badge," written and directed by Douglas Barr, is a police action drama. "Dead Badge" principal photography will commence on Oct. 18, 1993, said Baer, who is general partner of Steinhardt Baer Pictures.
Len White, Orion Pictures president and CEO, said, "We are especially pleased with our Steinhardt Baer Pictures agreement because it sustains the company's relationship with Tom Baer and Michael Steinhardt who have been extremely supportive of Orion in good times and bad."
Baer said, "We are delighted to be associated with Orion and its home video division, which we believe is one of the premier home entertainment operations in the industry. While our initial agreement with Orion is for video, Orion has a right to negotiate for other venues as well."
Michael Steinhardt, the well-known New York money manager and head of Steinhardt Management Company, said, "Orion is at a crossroads now and is in the process of moving forward once more. The company's preeminent position in home video may radiate to other venues for our films."
Baer said that "Playmaker" and "Dead Badge" will be ready for release in early 1994.
