OPTICAL RADIATION STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO WALL STREET JOURNAL ARTICLE

OPTICAL RADIATION STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO WALL STREET JOURNAL ARTICLE
AZUSA, Calif., March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Optical Radiation Corporation (NASDAQ: ORCO) said it believes the precipitous drop in the price of its stock today is due to an article in The Wall Street Journal mentioning its Orcolon product, which the company voluntarily recalled in October 1991.
The company said it removed Orcolon from the market as soon as an invisible contaminant was discovered in certain lot numbers of the product that may have caused elevated eye pressure in a small number of patients.
By the time of the recall, the company had received 116 reports of elevated eye pressure out of more than 19,000 uses of Orcolon.
In the face of an elusive and complicated situation, the company said it made every effort to determine the source of the problem, and throughout the process acted quickly and responsibly to collect and analyze information and take action to inform physicians to protect patients and to keep the FDA apprised.
The company stated it has not been informed of any criminal investigation concerning Orcolon as was mentioned in The Wall Street Journal article.
