OPTICAL DATA SYSTEMS, INC. ANNOUNCES SHAREHOLDER LITIGATION

RICHARDSON, Texas, Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Optical Data Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: ODSI), a leading Local Area Network (LAN) intelligent hub manufacturer, today announced that a shareholder filed a civil action on Oct. 27, 1993, against the company and four of its officers, including G. Ward Paxton, president and chief executive officer.
The lawsuit alleges that the company failed to comply with certain securities regulations and contends that the named officers violated federal securities laws by allegedly acting on certain non-public information for the benefit of three of the officers other than Paxton in the sale of ODS securities. The complaining shareholder initiated the action in his individual capacity and as a proposed class action on behalf of other persons who purchased ODS securities during the period from July 21, 1993, to Sept. 8, 1993.
"The company and each of the officers named in the action believe that the lawsuit is completely without merit and intend to vigorously defend the action," said Paxton. The lawsuit, filed in Federal District Court for the Northern District of Texas, seeks unspecified damages.
