OPTELECOM ANNOUNCES NEW FIBER OPTIC COMMUNICATION SYSTEM BUSINESS
 GAITHERSBURG, Md., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- OPTELECOM, Inc. (NADSAQ-NMS: OPTC), announced new fiber optic communication system business for its Communication Products Division. The company received an order for $110,000 from a Swiss company for 500 fiber optic modems. In addition, the company received a $180,000 order from a systems integrator for fiber optic communication links that transmit bidirectional broadcast quality video and audio signals along with 15Mbs of data for use at a major U.S. government installation.
 The division entered the first quarter of 1992 with a record backlog of $857,000 of which the above orders are a part.

 /NOTE: The company wishes to supplement its news release of Jan. 8, 1992, with the following additional information concerning each of the items described in the release: (a) The contract with TEICC/Lockheed was received in October 1991. Fifty-five (55) percent of the contract value was delivered by the company in 1991. Announcement of this contract by the company was delayed until Jan. 7, 1992, when authorization to announce the contract was given the company by its customer; (b) The receipt of an $88,000 three- month task for developing a fiber optic sensor for a major defense contractor occurred in September 1991 and does not guarantee continuation of business for the company at that rate; (c) The Naval Oceans System Command contracts for $103,000 for optic fiber payout technology were awarded in 1991. Most of the work on these contracts was performed in 1991./
