OPTELECOM ANNOUNCES AWARD, PURCHASE ORDER FOR PRODUCTS

GAITHERSBURG, Md., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Optelecom, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPTC), announced that the U.S. Air Force has exercised its option to purchase an additional $582,283 of laser arrays for the Optelecom laser illuminator employed in the GLINT night vision system used on the "Spectre" C-130 Gunship. This new award brings the total contract amount to date to $1,361,627. These laser arrays are replacements for previously supplied arrays expended in recent hostilities and in training. The Spectre Gunship has seen extensive action in Somalia as well as in Desert Storm, where its high resolution night vision capabilities have been used for surveillance in addition to use in directing gunfire.
Optelecom has received a purchase order worth $374,000 from LITE, Inc., of Hanover, Md., for delivery of fiber optic data and audio boards. Deliveries under this order will be completed before the end of the year. This is a continuation of an earlier unannounced order for $575,000 for data, audio and video boards, whose delivery was completed in September. These boards are the core components of a fiber optic data/video/audio multiplexer that provides enhanced services in a satellite-earth station application for a major VSAT provider.
