Eugene schools offer school choice details
Families in the Eugene School District considering enrolling children in a school outside their neighborhood in 2012-13 can attend an information meeting and/or visit the schools they're interested in. Parents can visit schools today through Friday, and also through the week of Feb. 27-March 2.
Each school offers different activities and times when parents can visit. Parents can phone ahead for details.
School Showcase, a school choice information fair, will happen on Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ch[sz]vez Elementary School, 1510 W. 14th Ave.
The deadline for school choice request forms to be included in a lottery is March 23 at 5 p.m. Forms are available online, at the Education Center at 200 N. Monroe St., and at any district school.
Block Kids contest set for Feb. 18
The Science Factory Children's Museum & Exploration Dome will co-sponsor the 2012 Block Kids Competition in conjunction with chapter 77 of the National Association of Women in Construction in Eugene.
Block Kids is a nationally recognized, award-winning building competition for children in elementary school grades 1 through 6. This year's competition will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 18 at the Gateway Mall in Springfield.
The competition is free; advance registration through the Science Factory is required because of limited space. To register, visit the museum or call 541-682-7888.
Farm and forestry scholarships offered
The Oregon Agricultural Education Foundation is accepting applications for two scholarship programs in the 2012-13 academic year.
Oregon Farm Bureau memorial scholarships are open to any Oregon high school graduate preparing for a career in agriculture or forestry.
The Oregon Farm Bureau Associate Member Scholarship is open to any high school graduate or resident with an associate membership in the farm bureau; The application deadline is March 15. More information is available at www.oregonfb.org/programs/ofb-scholarships.
