OPERATION ANDREW RAISES MORE THAN $125,000 IN ITS FIRST WEEK
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- In its first week, Operation Andrew, the project to aid hurricane victims in South Florida and Louisiana, raised more than $125,000, co-sponsors WCCO-TV and Pillsbury announced today.
In Operation Andrew, which runs through Labor Day, for every dollar collected by WCCO-TV to fund Salvation Army hurricane relief efforts, Pillsbury is donating a pound of food to the Second Harvest National Foodbank Network to help feed hurricane victims.
WCCO-TV, along with the CBS Foundation, and Pillsbury launched the campaign on Aug. 27, 1992, with matching contributions of $10,000 each. Response from WCCO-TV viewers and others in Minnesota has been exceptional, with more than 1,800 contributions arriving in the first mail delivery after the announcement. By the close of business on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1992, total cash contributions to Operation Andrew were in excess of $125,000, with more arriving every day. Pillsbury began shipping food to match Operation Andrew contributions from facilities closer to the disaster area earlier this week, with the first shipment from a Minnesota plant leaving Sept. 4.
People interested in making a contribution to assist in the relief efforts are asked to send checks made payable to:
