OPERATION: S.W.A.K. SENDS FIRST-CLASS MESSAGE TO U.S. TROOPS STATIONED ABROAD

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Now through Feb. 7, participating Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE) Centers across the United States will provide free, first-class postage ($.29) for Valentine cards and letters sent to U.S. military men and women stationed abroad.
The special Valentine's promotion, entitled Operation: S.W.A.K. (Sealed With A Kiss), grants free postage for 1-oz. ($.29), Valentine's Day cards and letters sent by MBE customers to an APO or FPO address to troops assigned to military posts outside the United States. With more than 1,900 locations in the United States alone, Mali Boxes Etc. is the nation's largest franchisor of postal, business and communication service centers.
According to Fred Morache, MBE vice president of marketing, Operation: S.W.A.K. was designed to help boost the morale of U.S. troops stationed at various military installations and on ships around the world this Valentine's Day.
"We wanted to show our appreciation and concern for our nation's military personnel who are away from their loved ones this Valentine's Day," said Morache. "We know that mail from home can be a terrific morale booster to troops away from home."
Currently, there are nearly 450,000 U.S. troops stationed around the world and on military ships.
Well-wishers who don't personally know a military serviceman or woman may address a Valentine card or letter to an APO or FPO address to "Any Serviceperson," and it will be delivered to a member of the Armed Services stationed in Europe, East Asia, the Pacific, Africa, Near East and the Western Hemisphere. Previously, "Any Serviceperson Mail" programs, such as the highly successful ones publicized by "Dear Abby," have helped increase public awareness of Americans serving overseas.
