OPERATING RESULTS FOR CLEARLY CANADIAN CONTINUE UPWARD TREND, ALTHOUGH BELOW PRIOR YEAR PERIOD

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Clearly Canadian Beverage Corp. (NASDAQ: CLCDF; Vancouver: CLV) said today it expects earnings for the second fiscal quarter ended June 30, 1993 will be ahead of the $.12 per share achieved in the preceding quarter, but will be below the corresponding prior year period and lower than projected by some analysts. Unaudited financial results for the second quarter are expected to be announced in the second week of August 1993.
Douglas L. Mason, chief executive officer, said while case sales are continuing to show an improving trend, operating results are being affected by gains in the bottled ice tea category, which has led to increased consumer testing of various brands and by competition in the new age beverage category.
Mason said Clearly Canadian recently signed distribution agreements in Mexico and the United Kingdom and is internally developing new products, some of which will be introduced early in 1994.
Clearly Canadian Beverage Corp. produces and markets Clearly Canadian(R), a line of natural mineral waters, and flavored sparkling water beverages. Through distribution agreements, Clearly Canadian is sold throughout the United States, Canada, Japan, Great Britain, Ireland and in Mexico.
