ONI Medical Systems announces MSK Extreme(TM) with v-SPEC Technology for MRI.
WILMINGTON, Mass. -- ONI Medical Systems, Inc., today announced the addition of v-SPEC (Versatile, Spectrometer & Protocol Engineered Coils) to its MSK Extreme dedicated MRI device, giving the industry its first six-coil, high-field dedicated musculoskeletal magnet. The MSK Extreme with v-SPEC has a versatile proprietary spectrometer design which uses host software to dynamically create pulse sequence waveforms and synchronize them with extreme precision. With the spectrometer, MSK Extreme delivers optimal contrast and resolution for every patient's anatomy Co every time.
Unlike most MRI systems that use a small number of coils for MSK applications the high-field MSK Extreme with v-SPEC uses a set of 6 specialized removable transmit/receive coils to optimize system performance for peripheral scans. With six coils, the MSK Extreme with v-SPEC optimizes image contrast and resolution while boosting signal-to-noise ratios by up to 80% for the best MR image quality in the shortest scan time.
"Our strategy is to continue driving clinical efficacy and cost effectiveness beyond current systems for MSK applications. ONI has the solution for the new Post-DRA (Deficit Reduction Act) healthcare environment," said Peter Pellerito, President and CEO of ONI. "Only the MSK Extreme with v-SPEC uses these proprietary coils to deliver the highest resolution in the shortest scan time for enhanced patient outcomes. In a changing reimbursement climate, the system is a cost-effective, high-field solution. It provides an alternative to purchasing a whole body unit without compromising image quality or patient comfort."
"The MSK Extreme with v-SPEC provides the power of a whole-body MRI magnet (1.0 Tesla), but with the cost advantages of a dedicated unit," said Ron Williams, Director of Diagnostic Imaging Services, New England Baptist Hospital, Boston. "It has low site preparation costs, uses standard electrical power, and is easily maintained for maximum reliability. A positive return on investment can be achieved with only two to three patients-per-day, vs. the eight to ten patients needed to support a larger system."
"With musculoskeletal injuries on the rise, it is imperative that we have detailed picture of each patient's pathology in order to expedite diagnosis and treatment. The MSK Extreme with v-SPEC gives us the extraordinary image detail we need in a system that is designed to optimize patient comfort. It has enabled us to provide a more responsive level of patient care," said Peter Roemer, PhD., co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of ONI.
ONI will be showcasing the MSK Extreme with v-SPEC at the Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) from Nov. 26 to Dec.1 in Chicago, IL (Hall B - Booth # 8506).
