ONE OF THE LAST ORIGINAL BIG BOY SIGNS COMES DOWN TODAY

LANSING, Mich., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- One of the last original Elias Brothers Big Boy neon signs is coming down in Lansing today. The sign, located at the Big Boy Restaurant at 3425 E. Saginaw, is 30 years old and is one of fewer than a dozen left in Michigan and the last of its kind in Lansing.
The old will make way for the new -- with crews replacing the 30-year-old neon sign with a new bold, crisp, red and white illuminated sign with a reader-board capacity. The Big Boy character is prominently painted on the illuminated sign.
"Sign crews are at the restaurant this morning and we anticipate the old sign coming down around noon, with the new sign taking its place early this afternoon," said Tony Michaels, vice president of marketing for Elias Brothers Big Boy Restaurants, Inc.
"It's definitely a 'sign of the times,' making way for the new, streamlined updated look, but keeping the Big Boy character intact. The sign many change, but Big Boy himself will never change," added Michaels.
The restaurant's manager is Chuck Dadswell and he can be reached at 517-332-0815.
The old sign will be taken to Elias Brothers' headquarters in Warren, Mich., where other vintage Big Boy memorabilia, dating back to the company's founding 56 years ago, is stored.
Elias Brothers Restaurants, Inc. is one of the largest restaurant systems in the world and the exclusive worldwide franchiser of the 925 Big Boy Restaurants in the U.S., Canada and Japan.
