ONCOR LICENSES GENETIC TECHNOLOGY FOR THE EARLY DETECTION OF A COMMON TYPE OF COLON CANCER

GAITHERSBURG, Md., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Oncor, Inc. (NASDAQ: ONCR) announced today that it has acquired an exclusive license, subject to joint owners' rights and licenses, from Dr. Albert de la Chapelle at the University of Helsinki, for genetic technology that may permit the detection of the genetic mutations associated with Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colon Cancer (HNPCC). HNPCC accounts for approximately 6 percent to 16 percent of all colon cancer.
Research conducted by Dr. de la Chapelle, in collaboration with researchers at another medical institution, has led to the recent discovery of the genetic mutations responsible for HNPCC which may permit the presymptomatic detection of individuals with HNPCC. Dr. de la Chapelle is a joint inventor and joint owner of certain inventions relating to the application of these discoveries.
Dr. de la Chapelle commented, "It is my hope that Oncor, with its resources and know-how, will be able to rapidly exploit these discoveries for the benefit of large numbers of people."
Stephen Turner, Oncor's chairman and CEO, said, "This licensing reflects our continued commitment to the development of genetic test systems to detect cancer at an early stage. We expect to work closely with cancer centers and researchers to assure that this technology is appropriately developed for future clinical use."
Oncor develops, manufactures and markets genetic test systems for use in the early detection and management of cancer and other genetic diseases.
