The millionaire population in Central Massachusetts could spike upward this week if two contestants on a popular game show win big. Harry Pappas of West Boylston will take the hot seat today
on "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" and Mike Oliver of Barre will follow him, squaring off with Emmy award-winning host Meredith Vieira on the show tomorrow.
Pappas, 80, a retired anesthesiologist, spent the last 30 years of his career at St. Vincent's Hospital in Worcester. He and his wife, Catherine, have 4 children and 9 grandchildren. Harry said that his first $1,000 from "Millionaire" will be split between the grandchildren - they'll get about $100 each.
During taping, Oliver, a 30-year-old residential youth counselor, wore a "Mighty Mike" T-shirt that his dad, Tom Oliver of Holden, got him for good luck. Mike said that if he won big,
he would buy season tickets to the Red Sox, go back to school and go skydiving. Contestants are guaranteed at least $1,000 as part of the celebration for the show's 1,000th episode. The show can be seen on Boston's WCVB-TV, Channel 5, at 12:30 p.m. weekdays.
