OLEON-DIESTER JV CLEARED.
The European Commission approved, on 8 January, the acquisition of the Belgian oleochemicals producer Oleon by the French biodiesel manufacturer Diester Industrie SAS, controlled by oilseeds groupaSofiproteol. The activities of Sofiproteol and Oleon mainly overlap in the production and sale of biodiesel and glycerine, a biodiesel by-product primarily sold in a refined form to pharmaceuticals and cosmetics companies. But the Commission notes that Oleon had only limited sales of biodiesel and that numerous alternative suppliers are active on the market and the merged entity would not be in a position to close off competing refined glycerine manufacturers' access to crude glycerine supplies.
