OKENA DEBUTS STORMSYSTEM FOR INTEGRATED INTRUSION PROTECTION.

OKENA, Inc., Waltham, Mass., a developer of intrusion prevention software, has introduced StormSystem(TM), a system of highly integrated products acting in unison to protect applications from new and evolving threats. StormSystem is powered by OKENA's breakthrough INCORE(TM) architecture, which correlates an application's use of file, network, registry and COM functions in order to define and enforce acceptable and safe behavior. Predicated on seamlessly integrated security products that prevent existing and unknown attacks without attack signatures, StormSystem dramatically reduces the operational burden of traditional security solutions.

The old model of security suites protecting multiple hosts and applications is broken. Based upon disparate underlying architectures, such suites have failed to integrate fully and protect networks sufficiently. With StormSystem, OKENA has made security suites unnecessary by establishing not only a common underlying architecture, but also the notion of a common agent. The OKENA StormWatch(TM) intelligent agent allows for true integration among OKENA products, including future product and technology developments.

"The year 2002 will be remembered as the year in which unknown attacks were prevented and security without signatures became a reality," said Shaun McConnon, CEO of OKENA. "With StormSystem and our INCORE architecture, OKENA has defined how organizations will achieve enterprise intrusion prevention. StormSystem is the foundation for expanding our breakthrough intrusion prevention technology; a true system of products that interoperate seamlessly and provide real value to the customer."

"Without the ability to prevent the next inevitable attack from executing, a company's security program is incomplete," said George Milliken, CEO at FARM 9. "We're committed to working with OKENA to maintain this level of security for our customers and StormSystem will be the framework that we use."

"The security landscape continues to evolve and enterprises now realize that they must do more to protect themselves from the constant cycle of attack and respond," said Charles Kolodgy, Internet Security Software Research manager at IDC. "Companies have realized that they need to be able to proactively respond to attacks that have yet to be identified. Solutions that defend against unknown attacks, a relatively new phenomenon, are increasing their adoption rates." According to Kolodgy, "StormSystem, from OKENA, delivers on proactive intrusion protection. OKENA took a stand-alone, intrusion protection solution to the next level by creating a strong framework that prevents enterprise-wide intrusions."

StormSystem Components

OKENA's flagship solution, StormWatch, is the central piece of StormSystem. StormWatch agents provide overall intrusion prevention for host systems. The agents collect the core data that powers other StormSystem products. Protection for common applications like Microsoft Office and IIS Web servers is as simple as clicking on a pre-configured policy. StormWatch is the only agent installed on hosts and enables the new functionality of forthcoming StormSystem products.

StormFront(TM) works in tandem with StormWatch to ensure protection for any standard or custom application that OKENA does not provide out-of-the-box. StormFront uses the StormWatch agent to collect data on how the application behaves, analyzes the behavior of the application and then generates secure operating policies for application control. StormFront then imports the policies into the StormWatch manager for quick and easy protection of any application.

Additional solutions based on the StormWatch agents are already in development. OKENA will announce StormTrack(TM), the third StormSystem component, later in 2002. StormTrack uses the StormWatch agent to rapidly identify unprotected components of the IT infrastructure and easily close exposures using the other StormSystem components, automatically determining whether to add a pre-existing security policy from StormWatch or create a new and custom policy with StormFront. This integrated approach ensures the highest level of proactive security without interfering with functionality or burdening already overworked IT departments. With OKENA's INCORE architecture as the backbone of development, future products can be built to also interact seamlessly within the StormSystem framework. The StormSystem management console is "open" and allows for integration with other security architectures.
