OIS OPTICAL TO CONSTRUCT NEW MANUFACTURING FACILITY FOR AMLCDs

TROY, Mich., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- OIS Optical Imaging Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: OVON) announced today that it will construct a new manufacturing facility for active matrix liquid crystal displays (AMLCDs). The facility, which is expected to cost $100 million, will have the capacity to manufacture approximately 50,000 displays per year.
OIS has applied for funding for such a manufacturing facility from the Advanced Research Projects Agency of the U.S. Department of Defense (ARPA) under ARPA's two-year, $50 million AMLCD manufacturing technology program. ARPA has selected OIS to negotiate a contract for this program. If these negotiations result in a contract, as OIS expects they will, the new plant will demonstrate manufacturing technology for AMLCDs and conduct research into next-generation display technology.
