OHIO POWER TO REDEEM PREFERRED STOCK

 CANTON, Ohio, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Ohio Power Company (OPCo) today announced that it will redeem all of the outstanding shares of two series of its preferred stock on Oct. 23, 1993.
 7.72 PERCENT SERIES
 OPCo will redeem all of the outstanding shares of its 7.72 percent Series of Cumulative Preferred Stock at $102.35 per share plus a sum computed at the annual dividend rate of the series per share accrued from Sept. 1, 1993.
 8.48 PERCENT SERIES
 OPCo will redeem all of the outstanding shares of its 8.48 percent Series of Cumulative Preferred Stock at $102.40 per share plus a sum computed at the annual dividend rate of the series per share accrued from Sept. 1, 1993.
 The preferred stock redemptions are being made under terms of the series of stock which permit them to be redeemed at any time.
 Notice is expected to be mailed to shareowners of record on or before Sept. 22, 1993. First Chicago Trust Company of New York is the redemption agent for this series of preferred stock.
 OPCo, headquartered in Canton, Ohio, is an operating electric utility subsidiary of American Electric Power Company, Inc. (NYSE: AEP).
