OHIO MODEL SCIENCE CURRICULUM TO BE INTRODUCED AT SECO CONFERENCE

CLEVELAND, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 2,000 science educators are scheduled to attend the Science Education Council of Ohio's 16th Annual Convention Feb. 18-20 in downtown Cleveland. Titled "Momentum in Science," the conference will take place at both Stouffer Tower City Plaza and the Marriott Society Center.
Highlighting the conference will be a special symposium to help determine the future direction of Ohio's required science curriculum and proficiency testing, which is slated to go into effect during the 1995- 96 school year.
The symposium will take place on Feb. 18 from noon until 4 p.m. in Stouffer's Grand Ballroom and will include the presentation of the work to date on the state model, and commentary by nationally acclaimed curriculum authorities like Elizabeth K. Stage, National Science and Education Standards project director.
"The symposium will give teachers and administrators a voice in shaping the Ohio Model Curriculum, which will be tested during the 1994- 95 school year," said Richard Benz, SECO District Director for northeast Ohio and Science Chairman, Wickliffe City Schools. "It will be an opportunity for any educator in the state of Ohio to react and have input to the process."
Also featured at the conference will be lectures and workshops on recent scientific and educational developments led by nationally renown scientists and educators including Woodie Flowers, host of Scientific American Frontiers and professor of engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); and Kenneth Wilson, Nobel Laureate in Physics, Youngberg Professor of Physics, Ohio State University; among others.
An additional conference highlight will be a kick-off "Walk in The RainForest" hosted by Cleveland Metroparks Zoo on Feb. 13 from 8:30-11 p.m., and a reception sponsored by The East Ohio Gas Company.
