OHIO MANUFACTURERS TO EXAMINE THE ROLE OF TEAMWORK AND EMPLOYEE INVOLVEMENT AT OMA LEADERSHIP FORUM

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Men and women employed at all levels of manufacturing from across Ohio will gather in Cleveland next month to examine together how teamwork and employee involvement can increase the competitiveness of their companies.
More than 500 manufacturers, from company presidents to factory line workers, are expected to attend The Ohio Manufacturers' Association's (OMA) 1993 Leadership Forum Nov. 11-12 at the Stouffer Tower City Plaza Hotel, Cleveland. The theme of the event, which is open to manufacturers statewide, is "Manufacturing Teamwork: The American Spirit in Global Competition."
"The OMA Leadership Forum provides Ohio manufacturers with an opportunity to learn best practices from practitioners, not consultants; to recognize and reward individuals who have achieved successes within their companies; and to celebrate manufacturing excellence," said Eric L. Burkland, president of the OMA.
The Forum program features panel discussions on employee involvement, the finals of a statewide manufacturing team problem solving competition, and hands-on interactive training sessions on teamwork and employee involvement topics. Major features of the event are:
-- Finals of the OMA's Case Studies in Team Excellence(SM), in which problem-solving teams of manufacturing employees demonstrate how they used teamwork and employee involvement skills to have a measurable impact on their companies in terms of quality, safety, environmental improvement or productivity.
-- A premier panel of manufacturing leaders, including Goodyear's Stanley Gault, Chrysler's Dennis Pawley and Timken's Charles West, along with team members from each company's employee involvement program, in a panel discussion entitled "Employee Involvement: What Is The Value?" This interactive discussion is moderated by IndustryWeek Editor-In-Chief Charles Day.
-- Manufacturer-to-manufacturer sessions, called Learning Circles, on today's teamwork and employee involvement issues. Companies sharing their knowledge and expertise include General Electric, Miller Brewing Company, The Timken Co., Honda of America Mfg., Inc., Westinghouse Naval Systems, Ford Motor Co., Chrysler Corporation, Wright Tool Company, Armstrong World Industries, Bellemar Parts Industries and General Motors Corp.
-- A gala banquet and celebration honoring the men and women employed in manufacturing, featuring remarks by Gov. George V. Voinovich and presentation of the Governor's Award for Team Excellence in Manufacturing to the winners of the Case Studies in Team Excellence finals. The banquet is followed by a special concert by Grammy Award Winner Kathy Mattea.
-- The OMA's first-ever Annual Meeting, featuring a presentation on health care reform by U.S. Rep. David Hobson (R-Springfield), a member of a bipartisan coalition on health care reform.
Registration for the Forum is $195 per person, and attendance at the OMA Annual Meeting is free to OMA members. To register, or for more information, call the OMA at 614-224-1722.
