OHIO DIVISION OF FORESTRY TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE PIKE STATE FOREST APV AREA

PIKE COUNTY, Ohio, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Division of Forestry will temporarily close the Pike State Forest All Purpose Vehicle (APV) Area, from Jan. 13 through April 1. According to Ron Abraham, chief of the Ohio Division of Forestry, the closing is a result of wet weather conditions which have damaged the APV trails. Further damage from erosion is possible, he said.
The Ohio Division of Forestry is the only state agency that provides quality trail riding systems for off-road riding enthusiasts. Although the Pike APV Area is closed, the division's other APV areas in Perry State Forest (Perry County), Maumee State Forest (Fulton County), and Richland Furnace State Forest (Jackson County) will remain open. The Wayne National Forest also provides APV areas in Athens, Lawrence and Scioto Counties.
"The Division of Forestry's obligation to forest management is the primary reason for this decision," said Abraham. "By temporarily closing the APV area, the division will be able to protect the forest while preserving the trail for the future."
Pike State Forest is located in Pike County, southwest of Chillicothe.
