OHIO'S QUALITY PROCESSED FOODS SHOWCASED DURING GOVERNOR'S VISIT
SAITAMA, Japan, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Ohio agricultural products are being highlighted during Ohio Governor George V. Voinovich's Trade Mission to Japan. With the assistance of the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA), a basket loaded with Ohio processed foods such as pasta, maple syrup, honey, jams & jellies and cookies will be presented to Saitama Governor Tsuchiya today in the city of Omiya. Saitama is Ohio's sister state.
"It's a chance to showcase the quality of Ohio products in Japan," said Cathy Hironaka, ODA's International Trade Program Director. "It's also an opportunity to establish a new market for these quality processed foods." Food processing is a twelve billion dollar industry in the state of Ohio. Fifteen million dollars in processed foods are exported from Ohio to Japan each year. Currently many U.S. companies like Borden, Proctor & Gamble and Smuckers are finding a profitable market by exporting Ohio's quality processed foods to the far east.
The Ohio Department of Agriculture's International Trade Program is working to create new markets for quality Ohio food products.
