OFFICIAL AIRLINE GUIDES REPORTS AIRPORT FLIGHT ACTIVITY FOR AUGUST

OAK BROOK, Ill., July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Official Airline Guides, the world's largest provider of scheduled flight information, gave a preview of daily departing flight activity for August at several airports worldwide. The numbers released indicate that flight activity continues to rise at airports in the Asia/Pacific and U.S. regions and is mixed in Europe.
Continuing the trend of increased airport activity in the Asia/Pacific region, seven of the eight airports surveyed in the region show increases in August. Beijing and Taipei's Sun Shan airports report the largest departure increase in the region, with both airports logging increases of 41 flights a day. Seoul and Tokyo's Haneda airports are close behind, and report an increase of 28 and 23 flights respectively. Hong Kong also shows increased departures (142 to 161), as does Singapore (172 to 178) and Taipei's Chiang Kai Shek airport (81 to 92). Tokyo's Narita airport was the only Asia/Pacific airport to report a slight decline, falling from 154 to 150 average daily flights.
Airports in the U.S. overall reported increased daily flight activity in August with Los Angeles reporting the largest increase in average daily departures in the region. Departures at Los Angeles increased in August by 94 flights (928 to 1,022) over the same period last year. Other airports in the U.S. showing increases include: New York's LaGuardia (465 to 468), Newark (569 to 609) and Westchester (66 to 72). The nation's busiest airport, Chicago O'Hare, reported a decrease of 12 flights and New York's Kennedy airport fell by 32 flights.
