DELRAY BEACH, Fla., Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Office Depot, Inc. (NYSE: ODP), the largest office products superstore chain in North America, today announced that it is now offering customers a variety of computers from the four leading computer manufacturers in the industry: Apple, Compaq, IBM and Packard Bell.
"No other retailer in the office products superstore industry has the same combination of vendors in the personal computer category. Office Depot's 271 locations in 31 states and western Canada offers computer buyers immediate accessibility to the four most important brand names available today," said Mark Begelman, president of Office Depot.
On Sept. 14, Apple Computer, Inc. announced that Office Depot has been authorized to carry the full line of Apple Macintosh Performa computers and peripherals. Performa models 200 and 400 as well as complementary monitors and printers are available immediately; Performa model 600 will become available in October 1992.

"With the addition of the Apple and Compaq lines, Office Depot is well positioned as the computer leader in the office products' superstore category. Not only will our customers who are purchasing computers to enhance their business productivity be offered a complete selection from which to choose, but Office Depot is also serving the home office and personal computer customers by offering them viable alternatives as well," said Begelman.
"Apple's Macintosh Performa line clearly speaks to the customer who uses a PC for educational or recreational pursuits and word processing. Compaq's assortment addresses the productivity needs of the home office and small business customers. It also supplements Office Depot's feature-rich selections from Packard Bell and IBM. If a computer buyer's need is related to business productivity, graphic design or desktop publishing, whether it be for business or personal use, Office Depot now sells just the computer they need," Begelman added.
