OFFICE DEPOT ANNOUNCES INTERNATIONAL LICENSING AGREEMENT TO OPEN STORES IN COLOMBIA & ISRAEL

 DELRAY BEACH, Fla., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Office Depot, Inc. (NYSE: ODP), the largest office products superstore chain in North America, today announced that it has signed a licensing agreement with Centros Del Futuro S.A. to develop and operate a chain of Office Depot stores in Colombia. Office Depot has also signed a letter of intent with the Koffler family of Canada, owners of Super-Pharm (Israel) Limited, and with Jack Fishman and Zach Fishbein, to operate Office Depot stores in Israel.

Fuente, chairman and chief executive officer of Office Depot, Inc. "This agreement enables Office Depot to expand internationally without having to make a direct investment in capital. In both Colombia and Israel, the participants are licensing the Office Depot name and retailing format and will be directly responsible for the operation in their respective countries."
 Carlos Alberto Leyva, president of Centros Del Futuro, commented, "We are proud to bring Office Depot's successful retailing formula to Colombia. Office Depot's excellent reputation for selling top quality, name brand office products, all sold at huge discounts, will be a welcome addition to Colombia's thriving business community.  Centros Del Futuro is headquartered in Bogota and operates the Colombian franchises for Sir Speedy, Fast Signs, Skyline Displays and Packaging Store. It is also a distributor for AT&T, Atapco, Curtis, Docubind, Rolodex and Velobind.
 Super-Pharm (Israel) Limited currently operates approximately 30 discount pharmacies in Israel. According to Leon Koffler, president and chief operating officer of Super-Pharm, "This agreement allows us to combine our years of retailing experience in Israel with Office Depot's recognizable name, superstore format and prestigious position within the office products industry." Co-partner Zach Fishbein has been named president of Office Depot Israel, with the first store slated to open in Tel Aviv in 1994.
 Office Depot, Inc. currently operates 321 office products superstores and eight delivery centers and contract stationer warehouses in United States and Canada. The company reported sales of $1.733 billion for fiscal 1992. Office Depot is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "ODP" and is included in Standard & Poor's Mid Cap Index.
