 OFFICE DEPOT ACQUIRES FIVE STORES IN CANADA;
 STORES WILL KEEP GREAT CANADIAN OFFICE SUPPLIES WAREHOUSE NAME
 DELRAY BEACH, Fla., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Office Depot, Inc. (NYSE: ODP), the nation's largest chain of office products superstores, today announced that it has acquired substantially all of the assets of H.Q. Office International, Inc., consisting of two stores in Edmonton and one store each in Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria, Canada. These stores will continue to operate under the name of Great Canadian Office Supplies Warehouse.
 "This acquisition enables Office Depot to enter the important Canadian market with an established base of five existing stores, leases for two additional stores and a staff of office products professionals already in place and experienced in doing business in Canada. It is our plan to expand beyond the current store base and open additional Great Canadian Office Supplies Warehouse stores throughout the country," said Mark Begelman, president and chief operating officer of Office Depot, Inc.
 Office Depot currently operates 241 office products superstores in 29 states. Each store offers more than 5,100 top quality, name brand office products, everything from paper clips to computers, at discounts up to 75 percent off list price. The company, which recently reported 1991 sales of $1.3 billion, plans to open an additional 50 to 60 stores in 1992.
