 OEA CONTINUES RECORD PERFORMANCE
 DENVER, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- OEA Inc. (NYSE: OEA), the Denver-


based, high-technology manufacturer of aerospace and automotive safety products, announced record sales, earnings, and backlog for the first quarter ended Oct. 31, 1991.
 Ahmed D. Kafadar, chairman and chief executive officer, reported increases in both net sales and earnings over the prior-year first quarter. Net sales and earnings for the quarter were $22,299,300 and $3,356,300, respectively, compared to $18,701,300 and $2,779,200 for the prior-year first quarter. Earnings per share for the quarter were 50 cents compared to 41 cents per share for the fiscal year 1991 first quarter. The parent company and all subsidiaries and divisions contributed to the 19 percent sales and 21 percent net earnings increases. Operating profit remained steady at 23 percent and OEA's financial condition continued strong. Working capital increased to $54,088,500, and shareholders' equity increased to $84,381,000.
 Bookings of new engineering work and follow-on production of both aerospace devices and automotive air bag initiators exceeded $25 million during the quarter. OEA's backlog of unfilled orders accordingly increased to a record $95 million at Oct. 31, 1991, up from the $92 million reported a year earlier.
 OEA is a leader in the field of propellant and explosive-actuated devices used in (1) the personnel escape systems of military aircraft, missiles, and for space application and (2) the automotive air bag. Most domestic automobiles (70 percent) equipped with an air bag use an initiator manufactured by OEA's Automotive Safety Products Division.
