 ODS ANNOUNCES A NEW TOKEN RING NETWORK RECOVERY SYSTEM;
 RECOVERS ANY VENDOR'S TOKEN RING NETWORK IN LESS THAN 8 SECONDS
 RICHARDSON, Texas, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Intelligent hub manufacturer Optical Data Systems (ODS) announces Network Protector(TM), a Token Ring network recovery system with the ability to recover any vendor's Token Ring network in less than eight seconds.
 According to Terry Gaston, ODS vice president of marketing, "Because a powerful network recovery system is the single most important feature an intelligent hub can provide to a Token Ring network, ODS has developed an advanced system that brings artificial intelligence to the Token Ring network recovery process.
 "ODS' new system, Network Protector, offers its rapid recovery feature to both ODS and non-ODS networks, as well as non-intelligent MAUs and hubs. With such backward compatibility, the entire network is shielded by the technology of Network Protector, regardless of the type of equipment on the network," Gaston continued.
 "Before the advent of intelligent hubs, the normal Token Ring error recovery process attempted to restore a failed Token Ring network. When it was successful, this process took approximately 20 to 30 seconds," Gaston explained.
 "If the normal recovery process failed, human intervention was required to fix the network. This was a major problem because an outage of more than three minutes will typically cause a complete Token Ring network failure," Gaston continued.
 The new ODS Network Protector restores a failed Token Ring network in less than eight seconds without human or network management intervention.
 "When you consider how many hours are spent locating and correcting Token Ring network problems, Network Protector has the capability to change the way we all do business," Gaston said.
 ODS' Network Protector is available immediately. Users can upgrade existing ODS equipment with Network Protector for $4,580. Starting at $8,865, users can purchase an ODS intelligent hub and install Network Protector on a formerly non-ODS network.
 Founded in 1983, ODS is a major manufacturer of Token Ring, FDDI and Ethernet LAN equipment. Based in Richardson, Texas, ODS offers a full line of intelligent hubs, bridges and routers, as well as extensive experience in the design and implementation of LAN, MAN and WAN networks.
