 ODETICS SIGNS MAJOR AGREEMENTS FOR NEW AUTOMATED TAPE LIBRARY;
 DELIVERIES BEGIN IN MARCH
 ANAHEIM, Calif., March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Odetics (AMEX: O.A., O.B.), a leading manufacturer of automated library systems, today announced initial business agreements for the ACL5480, an automated tape library introduced to the computer mass storage marketplace at the Comdex trade show last fall. These business agreements represent quantities that could position the company to fill out a substantial portion of its next fiscal year's production. Deliveries will begin in March 1992.
 The ACL5480 is Odetics' first commercial product for the computer mass storage marketplace. It stores standard 3480-format cartridges and accommodates a broad range of tape drives. The library is being marketed to OEMs, system integrators and value-added resellers that play a key role in serving the various distributed computing and network file server market segments. Odetics' objective is to develop strategic alliances with individual commitments of at least 100 systems per year. Because of the nature of these alliances, details of the agreements are not available.
 The ACL5480 is a modular library supporting 300 to 1,800 cartridges. It is the first library targeted to meet the growing storage needs of the midrange computer market. Computer industry analysts cite this market as being 10 to 20 times the size of the mainframe computer market, with an annual growth rate of as much as 25 percent over the next five years. According to Dr. Kevin Daly, chief technical officer for Odetics, the automation of midrange computer mass storage will be a significant market throughout the next decade. "Following the success of large mainframe tape libraries, the ACL5480 is expected to play a key role in the much broader range of system solutions for smaller applications required by midrange computing," Daly said.
 Founded in 1969, Odetics manufactures automated products that store and control information. The company's automated library products span the television broadcast and computer mass storage markets.
