ODETICS SHIPS NEW TCS90 CART MACHINE TO JAPANESE SATELLITE TELEVISION
ANAHEIM, Calif., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Odetics (AMEX: O.A., O.B.) today announced that it has delivered one of its new TCS90 Cart Machines to Japanese Satellite Television (JSTV) of London. JSTV transmits Japan's NHK channel by way of satellite throughout Europe. The TCS90 is the latest addition to Odetics family of broadcast library automation products.
According to David Lewis, vice president of Odetics Commercial Products and Broadcast Divisions, the JSTV application is of particular interest because the Cart Machine records incoming satellite feeds while transmitting programming. "NHK in Japan transmits Japanese programs by way of PanAmSat and Intelsat to London, however, due to time differences these arrive at night," explained Lewis. "The Cart Machine records the satellite feed throughout the night. The next day, the feed is edited, a playlist created and the tapes are then replayed via the Astra satellite to Europe. Commmercials and other program material are inserted into this feed by the Cart Machine. Odetics was the only cart machine manufacturer that could meet this customer's needs."
Cart machines are robotics-based automation systems that store tapes, referred to as "carts," containing television commercials, news spots and other programming. Because it is compatible with numerous tape formats and easily adaptable to tape recorder model changes, the TCS90 broadens the company's customer base to include cable stations and pay-per-view applications.
Founded in 1969, Odetics manufactures automated products that store and control information. The company's automated library products include those for the television broadcast and computer industries.
