OCCIDENTAL OMAN PROVIDES ITS ASSISTANCE TO HAIMA CAMEL RACE.
As part of its larger initiative to support camel racing in the sultanate, Occidental Oman recently attended the Haima Camel Race, which is the first of four races organised by the Oman Camel Racing Federation, and sponsored by Occidental Oman.
Held under the auspices of H E Sheikh Madit bin Mohamed bin Abdullah al Yaqobi, Governor of Al Wusta, the event witnessed the attendance of H E Sheikh Said bin Saud al Ghufili, chairman of the Oman Camel Racing Federation, and Nasser Issa al Maskari, corporate social responsibility manager at Occidental Oman.
Over 300 people attended the race, where 200 camels competed to win on the racetracks. After ten rounds, four winners were declared. Occidental Oman awarded each of the winners with a pickup truck, in accordance with the sponsorship agreement previously signed between Occidental Oman and the Oman Camel Racing Federation.
Occidental Oman will also award 24 winners of the three following sponsored races with pickup trucks. Future sponsored races include the Saham Camel Race in December 2018, the Adam Camel Race in December 2018 and the Ibri Camel Race in January 2019.
Occidental Oman has supported 13 camel races for the last four years, as the initiative engages with a sport historically tied to the culture of local communities. This sponsorship comes within the framework of Occidental Oman's long-term commitment to strengthen its social ties with the communities located in its concession areas and the wider Omani population, and it enhances the strategic partnerships and continuous collaboration with key stakeholders.
