OCCIDENTAL BUYS ALLEGRO RESORTS.

Occidental Hoteles, the Spanish hotel chain, finalized the purchase of Allegro Resorts, paying US$455.2 million for the 22 hotels (6,300 rooms) that Allegro operates in 10 countries, reports DR1 Daily News (September 14, 2000). Occidental, with 85 hotels (20,390 rooms) in 54 countries, is now the largest hotel operator in the Caribbean. In the DR, Occidental Hotels manages the Embajador (Santo Domingo; Playa Real (Juan Dolio), Playa Dorada and Flamenco Beach (Playa Dorada, Puerto Plata); La Esplanada (Sosua, Puerto Plata), Flamenco Bavaro (Bavaro), Gran Bahia, Cayacoa and Cayo Levantado (Samana). Allegro Resort operates Jack Tar Village and Club on the Green (Playa Dorada, Puerto Plata), Playa Grande (Playa Grande-Maria Trinidad Sanchez), and Allegro Resort Bavaro (Bavaro).
