OCC TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING

WASHINGTON, April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- A public hearing will take place on May 3 in Houston, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) announced today. The hearing relates to a cease and desist action against three affiliated national banks: the First National Bank of Bellaire, Bellaire, Texas; Texas National Bank, Baytown, Texas; and Mayde Creek Bank, N.A., Katy, Texas.
The hearing will address OCC allegations that the three banks made excessive loans to a bank customer and to companies and entities controlled by the customer and his wife. The OCC alleges that these loans constituted unsafe and unsound concentrations of credit and that they violated the banks' legal lending limit. The loans to the customer and his related interests at the First National Bank of Bellaire equaled 350 percent of the bank's capital; at Texas National Bank the loans equaled 290 percent of the bank's capital; and at Mayde Creek Bank the loans equaled 200 percent of the bank's capital.
The OCC is the federal agency that regulates national banks. It examines national banks to determine if they are operating in a safe and sound manner and are complying with banking laws and regulations. Under the Crime Control Act of 1990, OCC administrative hearings such as this hearing must be public.
The hearing will begin at 9 a.m. CST in Courtroom 7006 of the Bob Casey Federal Building, 515 Rusk St., Houston.
