Clarence Golbek

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Thurston Community Baptist church for Clarence Golbek of Springfield, who died Sept. 18 of age-related causes. He was 87.

He was born Jan. 22, 1922, in Inola, Okla., to Peter and Agnes Krause Golbek. He married Leora Peters in 1948 in Reedley, Calif.

He served in the Army in World War II and received the Victory Medal. He worked for Howard Cooper Logging, and then for the city of Eugene as a purchasing agent.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gerald Golbeck of Watsonville, Calif., and Wayne Golbeck of Springfield; a daughter, Cheryl Golbek of Springfield; a sister, Viola Will of Santa Cruz, Calif.; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

John Guggisberg

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Albany for John Woodson Guggisberg of Albany, formerly of Cottage Grove, who died Sept. 20 at age 89. His family chose not to list the cause of death. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 22, at Fisher Funeral Home in Albany.

He was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Leona, Ore., to Fred and Minnie Garrison Guggisberg. He married Louise Marden June 20, 1971, in Corvallis.

He graduated from high school in Corvallis, and served as an Army paratrooper during World War II, receiving awards including the Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, a combat medal and the Liberation of the Philippines Medal. He later worked as a logger.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kathy Phillips of Hillsboro and Susan Carlson of Juneau, Alaska; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements by Fisher Funeral Home in Albany. Remembrances to the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice, in care of Fisher Funeral Home.

Ruby McVey

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at West Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene for Ruby N. McVey of Eugene, who died Sept. 19 of age-related causes. She was 78.

She was born Oct. 7, 1930, in Belton, Texas, to A.D. and Ruby Cheatam. She married Woodrow Wilson McVey on Dec. 13, 1945, in Texas. He died in July 1973.

She worked in restaurants, was a bookkeeper and helped with a lawn and tree business.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry McVey of Euless, Texas, and James McVey of Eugene; two daughters, Kathy Perrigo of Eugene and Nancy Ann Howell of Myrtle Point; and 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements by West Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene.

Ahnika Mitchell-Blondell

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Dunes Memorial Chapel in Reedsport, for Ahnika Christine Mitchell-Blondell of Reedsport, who died Sept. 17. She was newborn. Following the service, she will be buried at Reedsport Masonic Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 17 in Coos Bay, to Joshua Blondell and Miranda Mitchell.

Survivors include her parents; a sister, Kalyska Mitchell of Reedsport; her grandparents, Ella Fisher of Reedsport, Mike Mitchell of Lakeside, Jerry and Debbie Blondell of Reedsport, and Bodie and Jeanne Dye of California; and great-grandparents Delmer and Pricilla Butler of Reedsport and Alma Mitchell of Lakeside.

Arrangements by Dunes Memorial Chapel in Reedsport. Remembrances to PeaceHealth Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
